Cameron Partners Hits the Front in the M & A League Table

3 April 2006

Cameron Partners, the country's largest independent investment bank, has hit the front in the latest Thomson Financial completed deal rankings with a number one spot in completed transactions for the first quarter of 2006.

In the quarter to March 31 2006 Cameron Partners came first in the New Zealand rankings for completed transactions worth US$1.2 billion and second in the rankings for announced transactions.

Partner Rob Cameron said today the strong showing was attributable to the firm's increasing participation in M&A activity.

“It is also about the 'rise' of the independent banks, a trend well established internationally which is now becoming a force in the New Zealand market”, Mr Cameron said.

Mr Cameron said the growth of private equity was another important factor, “there has been a big increase in our advisory and transaction execution services to private equity funds and being independent has increased demand for our advisory and transaction work.”

Major advisory roles and completed transactions over the last year have included:

  • Advisor to a consortium led by Rayonier NZ and RREEF Infrastructure on the acquisition of 94,600 hectares of Carter Holt Harvey forests for NZ$435m and subsequent NZ$270m purchase of 40,000 hectares of the Rayonier forestry estate
  • Advisor to Masthead Limited on the successful takeover offer for Vertex Group Limited.
  • Advisor to the Independent Directors of Carter Holt Harvey with respect to the takeover offer from Rank Group Limited,
  • Advisor to the Independent Directors of Capital Properties with respect to the takeover offer from AMP Property Portfolio.
  • Advisor and lead manager to Zespri International Limited in relation to a capital structure review, valuation and subsequent NZ$17.3m share placement. Also advised Zespri in relation to a subsequent share buy back.
